Zenless Zone Zero Custom Keycaps Review: Is This $41 Battlestation Upgrade Worth It?

Zenless Zone Zero Custom Keycaps Review: Is This $41 Battlestation Upgrade Worth It?

Staring at a stock, monochromatic mechanical keyboard all day is boring. But if you’ve ever browsed custom keycap group buys, you already know the painful truth: enthusiast designer sets often run upwards of $120 to $180—and sometimes take six months to ship. That is a steep pill to swallow just to give your desk setup some personality.

Enter the Zenless Zone Zero PBT Thermal Sublimation Keycaps, priced right around $41.49. If you are hooked on HoYoverse’s stylish urban fantasy action RPG, this set promises high-end dye-sublimated aesthetics without destroying your wallet. Let’s see if this budget find delivers the goods or cuts too many corners.

Why It’s a Steal

Finding a complete, themed keycap set under $50 that actually uses thick PBT plastic is rare. Most cheap anime-themed alternatives cut corners by using thin ABS plastic that wears down to a greasy shine within a few months of intense gaming. At just $41.49, this set brings both durability and elaborate five-sided artwork to the table without boutique group buy markup.

Instead of dropping triple digits on artisan keycaps, picking up a set like this leaves plenty of spare cash for other desk upgrades—whether that is a desk mat, bias lighting, or even pairing it with something silly like an ice ball maltose squishy to melt away work stress between matches. In terms of price-to-aesthetic ratio, it immediately punches well above its weight class.

Key Features Deep Dive

1. Thick PBT Material That Resists Shine

The primary advantage here is the thick PBT construction. Unlike cheaper ABS keycaps that develop oily-looking smooth spots from your finger oils, PBT retains its subtle textured matte finish for years. It delivers a deeper, more satisfying “thock” sound profile upon bottoming out, elevating the overall typing experience of your board instantly.

2. Thermal Dye-Sublimation Printing

Laser-printed or pad-printed legends eventually scratch off. This set uses thermal dye-sublimation, a process where high heat infuses the ink directly into the plastic itself. The sharp Zenless Zone Zero character art and stylized legends won’t fade, chip, or smudge, even if you put thousands of hours into grinding endgame content.

3. Broad Layout Compatibility

Whether you rock a compact 60%, a popular 75%, a tenkeyless (TKL), or a full-sized 100% board, this set includes a generous variety of novelty and modifier keys. The standard cross-shaped stems fit virtually any standard Cherry MX-style switch (Gateron, Outemu, Kailh, Akko, and clones included), making installation a simple 10-minute swap.

Who Is This For?

This keycap set is tailored for:

  • Zenless Zone Zero & Anime Fans who want to theme their gaming space around their favorite characters.
  • Budget Keyboard Builders looking to customize an entry-level board (like an RK61 or Keychron) without spending more on caps than they did on the keyboard itself.
  • Everyday Typists who want durable, matte PBT keycaps that feel comfortable for long typing sessions.

✅ Pros

  • Exceptional value at just ~$41.49
  • Durable PBT construction avoids shiny wear marks
  • Vibrant dye-sublimated graphics won’t rub off
  • Wide compatibility with standard MX-style mechanical switches
  • Includes fun novelty accent keys to personalize your board

🔻 Cons

  • Legends are opaque (RGB backlighting will not shine through the letters)
  • Spacebar straightness can occasionally have minor tolerance variations typical of budget PBT
  • Keycaps only—does not include the actual keyboard

Final Verdict

If you’re expecting custom hand-poured artisan resin keycaps, you won’t find them here. But for $41.49, these Zenless Zone Zero PBT keycaps offer an unbeatable blend of sharp anime aesthetics, durable materials, and great layout coverage. It is one of the quickest, most budget-friendly ways to inject vibrant personality into your battlestation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this package include a mechanical keyboard?

No. This is an aftermarket keycap set only. You will need your own mechanical keyboard equipped with Cherry MX-compatible stems to mount them.

Will these keycaps work with my keyboard switches?

Yes, provided your switches feature the standard ‘+’ cross stem (Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh, Outemu, Akko, etc.). They will not fit low-profile proprietary switches, optical membrane switches, or vintage Alps stems.

Does RGB lighting shine through the letters?

No. These are dye-sublimated PBT keycaps, meaning the plastic is solid and opaque. Backlighting will glow softly around the edges of the keys (underglow), but it will not shine directly through the lettering.

Why choose PBT over ABS keycaps?

PBT is a denser, more durable plastic compared to standard ABS. It resists high temperatures, finger oils, and wear, ensuring your keys don’t turn slick and shiny over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these keycaps compatible with all mechanical keyboards?

These keycaps are designed to be compatible with most mechanical keyboards that use MX-style switches (the cross-shaped stem). This covers a vast majority of popular mechanical keyboards. However, specific layouts (like some non-standard bottom rows or less common enter key shapes) might have some keys that don’t fit perfectly. It’s always a good idea to check your keyboard’s layout against the keycap set’s included keys.

What is PBT material, and why is it considered good for keycaps?

PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) is a highly durable and dense plastic known for its excellent resistance to wear, heat, and chemicals. For keycaps, PBT is preferred because it resists the “shine” that often develops on ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) keycaps over time due to finger oils and friction. PBT also offers a slightly textured, matte finish that many users find pleasing to the touch, and it generally produces a deeper, more satisfying sound profile.

How durable are the legends with thermal sublimation?

Thermal sublimation (or dye-sublimation) is an excellent method for applying legends and artwork to keycaps. Unlike pad printing or laser etching, dye-sublimation embeds the dye directly into the plastic itself, rather than just printing on the surface. This makes the legends incredibly resistant to fading, scratching, and rubbing off, ensuring the vibrant Anime Limbus Company Don Quixote designs will last for years, even with heavy use.

Is the $41.47 price good value for these keycaps?

Considering these are PBT keycaps with thermal sublimation, featuring a unique and niche anime/game theme (Limbus Company Don Quixote), $41.47 is generally considered a very good price. Standard PBT dye-sub keycap sets often start around $30-$50 for generic designs, and themed sets can frequently exceed that. For a specialized product like this, the price offers strong value, especially for fans who appreciate the aesthetic and quality materials.

Key Features Deep Dive

🎨 Expressive Genshin Impact & Columbina Design

The standout feature here is undoubtedly the theme. These keycaps bring the world of Genshin Impact, and specifically the Fatui Harbinger Columbina, right to your fingertips. The **"Anime Cosplay Cartoon" styling** means vibrant, recognizable imagery that makes your keyboard a talking point and a personal tribute to your favorite game. It’s an instant visual upgrade that screams "I love Genshin Impact!" without saying a word.

💪 Durable PBT Material

Beyond aesthetics, these keycaps boast **PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) construction**. Why is this important? It’s more resistant to shine over time, meaning your keycaps will retain their matte finish and textured feel even after countless hours of typing and gaming. This translates to a longer lifespan and a consistently premium typing experience, making your investment last.

💡 "Side Lighting" for Enhanced Aesthetics

The "Side Lighting" aspect of these keycaps suggests they are designed to complement backlit mechanical keyboards. While the keycap legends themselves might not be shine-through, the design often allows light to escape around the sides or through specific areas, creating a captivating glow. This feature ensures that your keyboard’s RGB lighting isn’t wasted, instead **enhancing the overall visual appeal** and making the Columbina artwork truly pop, especially in low-light environments.

Who Is This For?

This keycap set is perfectly suited for **Genshin Impact enthusiasts** who own a mechanical keyboard and are eager to personalize their setup. • ~$47.66 might be considered high for some purely aesthetic upgrades

Final Verdict

For the ardent Genshin Impact fan with a mechanical keyboard, these Columbina-themed PBT keycaps offer a compelling blend of personal expression and practical durability. It’s not just a set of keycaps; it’s a statement piece that truly makes your keyboard yours. If you’re looking to dive deeper into personalizing your gaming gear, this set is certainly worth considering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of mechanical keyboards are these keycaps compatible with?

Most aftermarket keycap sets, including these, are designed for mechanical keyboards with standard MX-style switches (the common "cross" stem). While specific compatibility isn’t listed, they typically fit standard layouts (e.g., 60%, TKL, 104-key full size). It’s always a good idea to check your keyboard’s layout if it’s non-standard (e.g., some Razer, Corsair, or niche layouts).

What are the benefits of PBT keycaps?

PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) plastic keycaps are highly valued for their durability, resistance to shine, and satisfying textured feel. Unlike ABS keycaps, which can develop a slick, greasy look over time from finger oils, PBT maintains its matte finish and original texture, offering a more consistent and premium typing experience throughout its lifespan.

Do these keycaps come with a mechanical keyboard?

No, this product listing is solely for the keycap set. You will need to have your own mechanical keyboard (without a keyboard, keycaps don’t do much!) to install and use these keycaps. They are an aesthetic and tactile upgrade for an existing setup.

How does the "Side Lighting" feature work?

The "Side Lighting" feature means the keycaps are designed to allow backlight from your mechanical keyboard’s LEDs to escape from the sides of the keycap, or through specific non-legend areas. This creates a vibrant glow around and beneath the keycaps, enhancing the visual effect of your keyboard’s RGB lighting without necessarily having shine-through legends. It adds an extra layer of flair to the Columbina artwork.
