Decent for the MoneyNice built quality and button and front key features. Arrives with FCC compliance for 2meter & 440 (70cm). These can be unlocked if you dare and the settings are only available with the Factory Software. Running Windows 10, software works fine. WARNING! There are 2 ways to unlock freqs like a Baofeng, but beware, if you use CHIRP, all settings will be missing if you do the MOD. I saved an image of the original Factory Software & options. Then imported radio and saved those settings first. Same with CHIRP, imported stock radio and saved dated image. Then tried the MOD and yup, no CHIRP settings. Resetting radio to factory WILL NOT REMOVE EXPANDED TXT FREQS. However, if you made backup first, just restore to the radio and it will put everything back where it should be, legal freqs and CHIRP settings available. Ran mine temp to 24amp power supply with cigarette plug wired on back as an experiment. Power settings on meter came in spot on except 1. Low 5watts, Mid2 10watts, Mid1 20watts exactly. High power @ 40watts which is decent for running thru 24amp supply wired to cig lighter adapter, then cig power supply to radio. Passed power test @ 100%. I have a friend who has one of these, always sounds excellent with stock mic. When you setup freqs, select MEDIUM on the narrow or wide band settings. This will give best sound with perfect clean output. Also like the 4 P buttons on Mic. You can program them in the Factory Software or Chirp. Great features that my Yaesu FT-8900R lack in options. Nice air flow from back heat sink and fan. Purchased 2nd one while available for basement. Running mine in bedroom with ladderline jpole dual band antenna on 5 watts hits repeaters in opposite direction loud and proud. Get the Asurion Protection Plan as this radio only has 3 mth warranty to CHINA!Update: Having problem figuring out the cross band repeater function. Seems to only work in VFO mode not with saved memory channels (simplex on left, repeater on right).

Excellent radio. Read my review!I hooked this radio up to a fresh calibrated IFR1200S. Just wanted to see the sensitivity and how close it is on frequency. Absolutly amazing sensitivity. .08 microvolts to break the squelch. And on UHF it was off about 2hz. 2hz!!! I have never seen that from any Chinese radio ever. Great radio. Power output is a few watts over ratings. Deviation is perfect. You can’t go wrong!

Works As Advertised. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. This thing works as described. Easy to program. Sounds like you’re sitting in a police car. 🚔 Cross band repeat function is very handy. I mounted the radio behind the dash next to driver side door. Face plate is in the sunglasses holder overhead. The microphone extension cable i bought was about fifteen inches too short, as you can see in the video.I’ll be able to fix that soon. Paired with a Diamond CR-8900 antenna. Works great.

Build quality Small things don’t work, like plugging into the computer. Tried 3 different cables, 2 different machines (Mac and Windows 10) and 3 different programs (Chirp, tyt that came with it, and another from online). Reaching out to the seller made it seem that everything that didn’t work with this radio was something I was doing wrong. I’ve programmed 15 different radios without any problems. Transmit would sometimes get buggy as well and completely distort or radio would shut off, seems like a time bomb before there’s a fatal malfunction. Also, listening on one channel while the other channel scanned was annoying (video). And sometimes in cross band repeat mode the unit would continue to transmit after the sending radio stopped and unit would need to be power cycled. This makes me not comfortable using x-band repeat unmonitored.I want to like this radio, because it is much less $ than the yaesu, is a quad band with good frequency choices, feels solid, and has good power settings. But it’s just not going to be worth it.

Not a bad clone of a real radioNot a bad reversed engineered chinese radio with stolen technology from Japan (Yet the Chinese demand respect). My only problem with it is its durability. The slightest accidental drop and the buttons go flying off. Now you’re shelling out $100 plus for a new face plate which takes a month to get here. However, those children putting it together in that Shanghai sweatshop did the best they can in between rolling fireworks on their lunch breaks.

Waste of money UPDATEI purchased this radio in October and finally installed it. It worked fine for a short time. I was talking and all the sudden no output. The SWR’s were very low so I am not sure why it quit working. I do not recommend the purchase of this radio.UPDATE.Amazon actually exchanged this radio for another. Same model and make. The new radio has been working well and I have had no issues. I also changed antennas from the wish ring to a commet dual band antenna. It works much better. Looking back I did not need the 6 and 10 meter functions on this radio. I consider this a decent purchase.

Great Quad Band RadioI am not sure what or why some of the feature ratings really apply. How do you judge sheerness or thickness? Well, the radio is not all that thick, maybe less than 2 inches. Size wise it is good for a mobile radio as it has the detachable front. But I am using it as a base station with a TekPower 23 amp power supply and it seems to be doing great. I have not tried other bands than VHF, but I did get the TYT Quad band antenna to go with it and It can pick up distant repeaters and Hams from neighoring states. Is is the second radio. The first one seemed to have a problem resetting when the PTT was pushed for more than a few seconds and It also seemed to be hard to turn on and off. Their slight push on the power button was taking more than the one second in the manual. However, this one seems to be doing really well as I mentioned. I would recommend it as there are not that many Quad band radios available for this price range. You could get one of the Quad Band radios which are 25 watts for about half the price, but then you may only get about 20 – 25 miles range.

  8. Cliff

Good solid radio for the money.I use this mobile and at home. Excellent radio for the money. Plenty of power, does all 4 ham bands. (10m/6m/2m/70cm) Plus 446 PMR, and 11m CB Radio. Good on airband receive too. Most of the features of its Yaesu clone for 1/3 the money. Very sensitive on receive as well!
