Not a gigaswitchThis one works fine as far as delivering power through its PoE ports which was I got it, but in a hurry I didn’t notice it was only 100Mbps. So have to return it for its 1Giga bps version. I’m also looking for 2.5Gbps or 10Gbps. If TPLink has a comparable model I’d be very interested.

Dead on ArrivalSwitches are dead on arrival. Suspecting vendor stock issue. The original purchased switch and its replacement are both non-functioning. The power light would blink on the first one, and on the replacement power light stayed lit. However, no network lights would fire on either one.Things I did to troubleshoot on both:1. I changed the actual NEMA power cord that connects to the power adapter brick (Power light only).2. Changed Outlets, direct power, surge protector, and APC UPS “Uninterrupted Power Supply” (Power light only).3. Used a already owned TP Link DC power cord (w/out a brick) (Network came on, but no POE).4. Used a universal laptop power adapter (Network came on, but no POE).When the first one that was delivered and didn’t work, I contacted TP Link. They said that due to who I bought it from “LLYtech”, they are not a reseller they warrant their equipment through and thus TP Link would not provide replacement. So I asked vendor LLYTech to return and replace this one, thinking this was a bad apple. NOPE! Second one doesn’t work either, same issues. I’m an IT Manager and I’m just trying to cheaply get a second connection to an office. I’ve gone down the possible problems for these switches, as I have dozens of switches operating in the office, and I never have these issues. Per my troubleshooting and discovering that the switch needs a different power adapter to function, I’m not sure if the switch’s POE is fully functional, as even with my universal Laptop power adapter that I have laying around, POE doesn’t work. Hope this helps someone else.TP Link has a list of resellers on their website that they do warrant their items through, I’m wondering if that will make a difference. I will update soon. I just needed a quick fix and over a week later, I’m still trying to fix the issue due to a common defect of these switches from this particular vendor.

Warranty shipping isn’t free.I purchased two of these switches. One failed after 4 months of use.I contacted TP Link support just to have them try and determine if the problem was something besides their switch. The PoE stopped working but the switch worked for non-PoE devices. So after going back and forth with support for a week, they finally agreed to send me a new one. Let me explain that I couldn’t have shortened my RMA time. I used my other switch as well as using a Linkrunner AT 2.0 that tests for PoE power. They wanted proof that their switch was faulty. They first asked for model numbers of my cameras and even the tester I used. So I had to even pull out my other switch to send pictures as proof my camera works in my other switch, as well as my Linkrunner doesn’t see PoE power. Now when they finally say my switch is faulty (lifetime warranty mind you), they tell me I have to pick a shipping option. Every one of them costs me money!!! The cheapest is for me to pay to ship to them. This is crazy!!I also have a netgear prosafe switch that’s failed three times over the past couple of years. When I call them, they overnight me a new switch for free.Bottom line, go with Netgear’s Prosafe line! You’ll feel the pain with support along with paying for shipping if you get past their replacement blockage. I will not purchase anymore TP-Link switches again. Netgear prosafe for me!

Didn’t even last 6 monthsThe attached image below is all you need to really see. It shows a short ping log just (but representative of its performance) before I replaced this switch and just after. I was going from over 1s pings, with frequent packet loss to the router inside my house, to <0.001s with a new switch. I bought this switch less than 6 months ago to replace a 20 year old switch and I've been having problems with this switch for months now. Its been progressively getting worse, until this week where the internet has basically been unusable. I typically never post reviews, but I want to warn others that anything over negative money for this product is not worth your time. I am going to go back to buying Netgear & Cisco equipment, since they actually make worthwhile products it seems.

Works goodIt works good. This one is the TL-SF1016DS – the S after the D designates steel case. It includes a couple of brackets. Indicator light array is off to the left side of the ports and a bit small to see in actual use. It uses a standard pc style power cord – the older kind which are a bit stiff and bulky. The power cord exits out the opposite side of the network cables and has to go straight for a ways, 4 or 5 inches, before bending in another direction. There is no fan so it is perfectly quiet. This looked like a good value in a 16-port router to me and I have not been disappointed in any way.I got this switch so I could more easily move my main router into another room to provide better wireless coverage. Everything that was plugged directly into my router #1 and an 8-port switch are now moved over to this 16-port switch – TP-Link unmanaged in steel case (with black powder coating). When I first hooked it up, my router #2 stopped working. Router #1 and #2 are both netgear R6400. Previously, router #2 was wired directly into router #1 but is now wired into this TP-Link switch instead. Problem turned out to be a bad RJ-45 connection on one of the cables and moving it over to the new switch caused it to act up. Symptom was that only wireless connections off router #1 were working but no wired connections and not the router #2 wireless either. Once I solved that issue by replacing that one cable I have had no problems. This switch is pretty nice mounted on a wall out of sight, not too far from the cable modem (which is where my router #1 used to be but now its in another room)

It simply does the jobI’ve had this switch in service for well over a year now. I have had 3 poe devices on it at one time without any issues. A security camera, a smart home hub and an access point. I’m going to be putting up a few more security cameras soon and will be picking up a second poe switch to power them.
