Description
Using an industry-leading 9-disk design pioneered by Toshiba, the MG08 Series provides 16TB of conventional magnetic recording (CMR) capacity and 7,200 rpm performance. The industry-standard 3.5-inch form-factor integrates easily into cloud-scale storage infrastructure, business-critical servers and storage, and File and Object storage solutions. Toshiba’s precision industrial laser welding technology is put to use to seal helium inside the 9-disk mechanics. The massive 16TB capacity is deli

Bought 3 for my NAS, working great the last 9 months.Bought 3 from Amazon. Serial numbers all came back good from Toshiba’s serial number warranty checking tool. I’ve had these in a Synology 1520+ NAS for 9 months with no issues. Bought a 4th one (from a different retailer) about 3 months ago and having no issues with that one either. They do make noise, as all platter drives do, but they’re not obnoxiously loud.Update 7/2022 – Bought another, this time fulfilled through TWONNY and received a failing drive with 15212 hours of use already on it. Beware this seller.Dropping to 3 starts overall. I have 3 good drives that have been in use for about a year with no issues. Do not buy from TWONNY. You will get a bad, used, failing drive.

This is an OEM hard drive, do not have personal Warranty!I bought the 16TB hard drive for $345.62 + $31.54(for tax). After I found the hard disk is OEM, I return this one.And finally, Amazon told me the restocking fee is $65.67.What a brilliant deal.

MG08ACA16TEKeep in mind this is a Very large disk drive i would not recommend trying to use it as a boot drive on pre sandy bridge systems with a 2 TB limit windows will address it but the bios will not and you will suffer a huge speed hit, otherwise for secondary storage it is great, i own 2 so far. it says its made by Toshiba but the cut of the case implies it was manufactured by hgst. also since its stacked full of platters (9) it does not have all the normal mounting screws of a regular 3.5″ disk drive so keep that in mind.

These are OEM drives, that should be easily apparent when buying, so no factory warrantyIm sure this is a great drive and I had already installed it in my system before running the serial number on Toshibas site, it was down when I first got it and tried, but when it did work it came back as a oem drive with no factory warranty. I thought I researched enough because in the questions section a “seller” said these where covered by toshiba, but apparently thats not the seller my purchase went thru. Now Im stuck with either no warranty or just hoping the random seller that sent mine out will still be around for 5 years to cover my purchase. Very disappointing, be careful as there is no way to really know if you will get a warranty or not and thats a big selling point for these drives.

Perfect for Synology NASI have an older Synology DS3612xs NAS. Online documentation stops “approving” drives past 12TB I think, but 16TB drives work just fine. I have also EXOS 16TB in the mix without any issues.Update – MG08 16TB drives run 3-6C cooler than Seagate ST1600. As the prices have fallen to pre-mining rush prices I’ll be adding more MG08 to my Synology.

Toshiba 16TB HDDI got it early in about 8 days instead of the estimated 3 to 4 weeks. Thanks.Brilliant product. When I used Crystal Disk Mark to test, it showed a speed of 230 to 240 MB/s read and write speeds. This is 6 to 7 times faster than my WD Easystore 12TB external HDD. When I tested the transfer speed of a 985MB, almost 1 GB, video file, using my Fideco double dock station, it showed a transfer speed 80 to 117 MB/s. That is brilliant.Even though it is a CMR HDD the MTBA is rated at 2,500,000 hours. That is 285 years. There may be failures a little earlier or a little later but I am not planning to live that long. Now I am planning see if I can use it for video rendering. Any idea if I could switch it from SATA to SAS drive?

Works fine in Netgear readynas RND10200.These are helium filled drives. Works fine on install; only time will tell if these drives last. I will come back if I get any failures. I’ve installed them in Netgear network attached storage devices. It takes several days for the second 16TB drive to synch with the first one, so don’t worry that anything’s wrong. Oh, and you only get 14.5 TB of usable storage on a 16 TB labeled drive. This is normal.

Crash on quick read/writes. Charged $50 Restock Fee even though broken and cannot be restocked.I barely ran it for 3 days before starting having issues. The problem with this (16TB) drive is it crashes when dealing with many smaller files. It has no issues with moving larger video files. I can transfer those around all day, many terabytes at a time without a problem. But when I move around a few thousand smaller sub 10mb files, it works for about 10 seconds, then makes a brief squealing sound, and just crashes. Its removed from the windows device list and then is found again about 10 seconds later. If I reinitiate the transfer of small files, it just crashes again. So something is up. Not sure if its systemic to the design of these drive (cant handle quick read/writes) or if its just a defective drive but I cannot afford the time to diagnose this issue.Oh one last note. This drive gets very hot. Even when left out on the table exposed, it gets very hot. Much hotter than all my other drives which are actually inside the computer case.

CAREFUL – The 5 year warranty is a SCAM! It does NOT exist. There is already a review written in German discussing this point, but I have to confirm that report hoping to give it more visibility for international buyers. The 5 year warranty does *NOT* exist. I repeat: the 5 year warranty is NOT a thing. The seller (including, notably, Amazon themselves) will say “you have to make a claim to Toshiba”, whereas Toshiba will say “you have to make a claim to the seller” and some such nonsense. It is effectively a SCAM and we are being deceived.
