Worked great and lasted a looong timeI live in the Colorado Mountains and decided to build my home office about 600 feet away from the main house – down by the stream buried in the trees. At the time, I had the foresight to run a CAT 5e line at the same time I trenched for electrical service but not enough foresight to realize that this was beyond the effective limits of a standard network run. I ran across this unit and decided to take a chance. Setup was relatively easy and straight forward. In fact. it likely took me longer to attach the plug ends to the CAT 5e wire than it did to connect the extenders. Connection went from the ISP provider to a wireless router to the extender, to the office to the receiving unit, to an 8 port unmanaged switch to the office’s wireless router. The units have been working perfectly since then until just a week ago when the receiving unit finally gave out. I went to the office to see the lights on the unit flashing on and off in unison and I didn’t have any network connectivity any longer. It wasn’t until I looked up my original purchase in Amazon that I realized that I’ve had this unit in daily operation since April… of 2012! That’s right….4 months shy of 10 years and working flawlessly for that length of time.

Just greatI have two locations here in the mountains of Tennessee. One is on a lake about 200 feet below and 1200 feet from the other. The upper location has 6 gbits/second internet. The lower location has exede satellite internet only. I tried using Ethernet between the two. Learned that Ethernet only travels 100 meters (328 feet). (Edison learned this in the 1880’s which is why we have alternating current today. I learned this in the 21st century.)So what todo? Buy a StarTech 10/100 VDSL Etender. This device is perfect to go up to 1.5 km (4921 feet). It converts the LAN Ethernet signal to VDSL2, which appears to be a high frequency sound. To quote wikipedia “Second-generation systems (VDSL2; ITU-T G.993.2 approved in February 2006) use frequencies of up to 30 MHz to provide data rates exceeding 100 Mbit/s simultaneously in both the upstream and downstream directions. The maximum available bit rate is achieved at a range of about 300 meters; performance degrades as the loop attenuation increases.”Unfortunately, the first pair of these things I bought did not work. The VDSL2 signal just would not synch. I was using Ethernet cable I had laid before I knew about the 100 meter limit. The manufacturing company has great tech support and I learned more about Ethernet and VDSL2 than I probably ever imagine I would need to know.Several things are important to know. First, you can use a single pair, twisted or un twisted, however a single pair wire is really hard to find for outdoor use. Wiring up an 8 twisted pair wire with an rj45 connector works great for the VDSL2 connection. I bought mine from Amazon.Second, test two units using an ethernet patch cable, these come with most routers. This lets you test the whole system in the privacy of your own home and obviates trips between your remote location.Third, (once the VDSL2 is shown to work) wire the ethernet connector from one of the outlets on the back of your router with an internet connector to the Ethernet port on one of the StarTech devices. All the dip switches up (this sets this one to CO central office). At the other end, set the dip switch on 1 down, all others up (this sets it to CPE customer premises equipment (how twentieth century these terms)). Wire the Ethernet patch cable to the internet side of your remote wireless router. I did not change the default settings on either wireless routers and it works flawlessly.I now have 6 mbits/second at both locations.Changed internet provider to Sky Tech. Now get 9.9 mbits/secOn 2016 May 3 we had tremendous lightning and hail. My office internet went down. Remember, I was paying ~700/mos for Exede internet at both locations. Started trouble shooting. Wire appeared intact. I had bought 2 of these dices. Swapped out each. Wallah internet back up. Bought spare ser again. Really a great solution if you need internet over a few kilometers

Hassle Free – Works great even at 3000′.I just purchased this device based on the reviews here on Amazon for a mineral/rock processing plant where I asked to find a solution to extend a network connection on just over 3000′ of Cat5e underground armored cable. Integration was as simple as installing a telephone jack on each end of the circuit and landing one pair of wires (I used the Blue/White pair). I configured the devices with all the switches in the off position with the exception of the CO unit which has to have switch 1 in the On position. Once the units were plugged in they Synced within 15-20 seconds routinely after several tests and our speed tests were averaging 2 – 3 Mbps Up and Down with no drops. We were limited to the locations infrastructure and T1 circuit for the entire site so based on multiple tests I suspect that this product would be able to pass through quite a bit more data. Data rates were smooth with no signal degradation causing peaks and drops during our testing. There are other lesser priced ethernet extenders on the market which work great but none extend further than 1500′. On first impressions I would most definitely recommend and purchase this product again!I have handed this integrated solution over to the plants IT manager to let him experiment with it further and will update this review with any additional information provided to me.

Works…but I have some concerns. The units function as they should. Two issues:1) There are options for 1 port, 2 port and 4 port versions. The 4 port version has 4 LAN ports that you can see in the picture. The 2 port version, which I purchased, only has one LAN port, the same number of ports as the 1 port version, but at a considerably higher price than the 1 port version.2) These units are basically identical to the TUPAVCO VDSL2 units with the exception of some branding labels. These units are much more expensive.

This is amazing, works as advertisedI have a barn that used to have a house phone extension, the line from house to barn is abandon because we use cellphones and discontinued land line service. I needed internet in the barn and this saved me thousands of $ running internet cable to the barn. I estimate distance about 200 yards

This Booster Made it possible to install wired ip camera at + 1600 feet! Not cheap, but very powerful! This kit made it possible to install a wired iP camera at + 1600feet. We have a buried a cat6 ip cable at a distance of +1600 feet with a junction at 1000 feet. Without this booster kit, the communication btw the Camera and Recorder was not possible. After installing the booster at each end, camera came on screen instantly and never failed after. As shown in description it can also be used with phone wire, did not test it..simply install a booster each end and coonnect the cable into the booster, all done (Booster require a power source)The camera system is PoE, but we bouhgt an extra AC adapter for this camera, I dont know if it also can boost the PoE to direct feed a camera over this distance?

FantasticSo far this product has exceeded my expectations. the distance between the two extenders is close to 3/4 km if not more and I am getting consistent speeds of 45mbps with a peak of 72mbps. They have only been up and running for 4 days but they have not dropped the link once. I would recommend these to anyone who is looking to extended their network range. I researched a similar product from another manufacturer in the United States and they were in excess of $800cdn.

Great product for sending ethernet over abandoned telephone wire pairs …Great product for sending ethernet over abandoned telephone wire pairs on business locations or farms. Speeds will typically not exceed 1 mp/s but will allow basic internet connections in buildings that may not get any otherwise. Very small boxes can be mounted easily with a velcro strip.
