10 reviews for SAMSUNG S27R650FDN, SR650 Series 27 inch IPS 1080p 75Hz Computer Monitor for Business with VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB Hub,

  1. Mirjam K.

Displays text like bad print, with pink/yellow shadowsTried whole series of advanced tests and settings, but the text remains jagged, with uneven weighting on letters (like badly printed text), and random color shadows/glows on letters.Back in the box!

Great for home office useJust received the Samsung Business SR650 24″ monitor and its definitely an upgrade for my home office.Love the black and metal finish with thin bezels. The screen has a light matte finish. No dead pixels so far!The TCQ certified apparently means its components are “sustainably sourced”.It has a USB 3.0 hub in the back and comes with a power cable, USB-B cable, display port cable, HDMI cable and these standoffs that I haven’t used yet. The HDMI can route audio over it as well so you can plug in a speaker (The display itself does not have one) into the audio out and not connect the audio in wire (not included). There is a VGA port if you need it.My old laptop is able to send a 1920x1080p signal to it at 75 Hz so that will reduce strain on my eyes.Maybe better with a newer graphics card. Its not a 4k display but its also under 200$The menus are accessible via a joystick like single button on the back behind the bottom right of the screen. You can change the mode of the power LED to switch on when the display is on instead of when the display is on standby by default. There is also an eye care mode like the night light mode in windows. There is even a volume control on the menu for the external speaker.Overall a great buy at around 183$ with tax. 170 before tax.

Decent Monitor for the pricePros:Good quality, features, size for the price. Pivot feature.Comes with a variety of cords (no HDMI to usb-c)Cons:The base was difficult to attach to the screen, and wouldn’t snap in securely until after multiple readjustments. Could just be me but took over 20 minutes of jiggering. When the screen is in portrait it is prone to wobble in its stand. IE – it doesn’t ‘lock’ into place. I haven’t used many pivot monitors so can’t compare.Compared to my 2018 Mbp 15″ the icons / text is not as crisp and defined. The power output from the USB on the back is low and charges devices slowly.Overall:Considering Samsung makes the best phone screens + best tv screens I’d expect more. Perhaps I should have gone for a higher tier model.

Bright and crisp business monitor, bad VESA mount designNothing not to like about the monitor for business use, can’t speak for gaming. It has a joystick navigation on the back, typical of Samsung monitors and TVs, bezel is narrow and the images bright and crisp. I connected two monitors to a port replicator using a DisplayPort cable and everything worked fine. The VESA mount option isn’t optimal, but I was able to apply a workaround that probably voids warranty. The problem is that Samsung molded in two raised tabs just below the bottom screws of the 100 x 100 mm mount. I don’t know what the intent of these tabs was but it may interfere with the installation of these displays on the desk mount you use. In my case, I was installing these on a Ergotron LX arms and the VESA mount plate doesn’t fit in between the upper and lower tabs with the screw holes aligned.I had a choice, drill new holes in the super thick VESA plate of the Ergotron mount or void warranty and trim plastic with a utility knife from the back of the monitor. I chose the latter and am hoping that warranty isn’t voided. After trimming the tab off, the mount fits.Lastly, the screws removed from the VESA mount holes were wayyyyyy to short, I replaced them with screws that were at least twice the original length

Not the Samsung image I was expectingIt was disappointing. I own two big screen TVs with terrific picture quality all around. So I went for the Samsung monitor expecting the same but was let down. The color don’t come alive. Much cheaper monitors deliver a better image. The stand is sturdy and very flexible, but ugly. There are about eight input ports, so connectivity is great. I returned it.

Crisp, clear text and images, vibrant colors, on a 2012 MacPro desktop Mac computerCrisp, clear, gorgeous picture! Text is crisp, no shadows. Colors are vibrant, high quality nature photos are gorgeous on this monitor. And it worked perfectly right out of the box with no futzing around with fonts etc. Chose this for compatibility with my mid-2012 MacPro desktop silver tower computer. Works perfectly! I did need to buy a DVI-to-HDMI cable as none of the included cables covered that. I replaced an existing 10-year-old Samsung monitor of the same size and resolution needing a lighter weight wall monitor for my new desk set up. The old Samsung was still working perfectly, but we’re now in an RV rolling around the country on bumpy washboard roads and everything gets jarred. I didn’t know how long the old girl would last, and I didn’t want to try to replace her when we were a million miles from civilization. So I chose this moment for a new one while it was easy to do.Excellent picture quality. I am stunned that the picture on this really pops compared to my old 27” monitor with all parameters the same: 1920×1080 resolution, running 60Hz, 16:9 aspect ratio, 1000:1 contrast, 5ms response time, 16.7 million colors… As for usage, I spend hours a day at my computer so the monitor matters. I spend much of my time in word processing or reading PDFs, but I also produce print-quality graphics. My only complaints are that it doesn’t have much of a frame. I like having a solid monitor frame so that I’m not touching the screen to move the monitor, and in the RV I do have to move it. The other thing is that the controls button is in the back, and as far as I can tell, everything is done from that button if you want or need to go into the control panel for the monitor. I prefer those controls to be in the front, on the frame, as actual buttons. That said, minimal frame monitors with buttons on the back seem to be all the thing these days, so I must be in the minority for preferring the other way.Still in all, I am delighted with the Samsung Business S27R650FDN monitor. This is my third Samsung monitor through the years. Previously I had a 2010 P2770HD 27” monitor, and a 2008 2693HM monitor. The 2008 was mine, and the 2010 was my husband’s. My 2008 gave out a couple years ago and he gave up his 2770 to me. It’s still working but I upgraded to a new one anyway.

Great for Office Use and Movies with Ultimate FlexibilityI was looking for an external monitor to use while I work from home – business use. I made the mistake and bought a cheap $170 ASUS display for gaming thinking, if it is good for gaming it must be good for document editing. I could not be further from the truth. I sold it and bought this Samsung display twice the price and ten times the capability. This Samsung display has everything, and I mean everything except speakers which are not needed when connected to a laptop.Big 27″ bright and smooth display. Document text is rendered beautifully and my presentations are sharp. Movies look great on it, especially animated films.Assembly was a breeze. No screws or tools needed. The screen rotates between landscape and portrait …. awesome sauce! I can display the entire document page and plus a bit more. The display swivels right and left and slides up and down just by a push, no levers or buttons to control. So basically, you can rotate this display screen in all three axis with a touch. It has tons of ports and comes with tons of cables, including HDMI, display port, and USB.It has a very thin bezel making it very elegant.I love sitting in front of this display to work.

Plenty of Features, Poor Execution.First impressions out of the box is that it’s well made and looks nice when off. Includes Displayport, HDMI, and USB A-B cables. Easy to put together. Stand ergonomics are functional, but not great – it wobbles more than I’d like and doesn’t go high enough for easy rotation to portrait.Black levels are *horrible*, some of the worst IPS glow I’ve ever seen. I figured this was just another LG IPS panel, but it’s not – characteristics are quite different from any LG I’ve seen. Even cheap $99 special LG based monitors look better than this. Out of the box colours are strange – partially oversaturated? Unfortunately I do not have a calibrator right now. Don’t see any dithering, seems to be an 8 bit panel.Default and “recommended” refresh rate is always 60Hz, even though the monitor can officially do 75Hz at 1080p – it’s very annoying.Game mode is functional, though it disables all colour controls. Response time and input latency are not noticeable to me – way better than Samsung’s cheaper VA displays. AMD Freesync support enables fine and nVidia cards see it as G-sync compatible.Displayport input seems finicky with my Radeon Vega 56 and Geforce GTX980, works fine on a Quadro P1000 and K2200. Possibly a defective cable? Also, can’t seem to get any text mode output on Displayport – the monitor doesn’t even see a signal. If you find it cheap, it’s fine as a general purpose monitor. Really don’t recommend for content creation. If you don’t mind a 6 bit panel, I’d look at an equivalent Dell or LG instead.

  10. Andrew Stuart

Does its jobThe monitor has been great. I’ve used it for approximately 6 months of regular use now because of COVID and working from home.I would caution people to treat it with care as it does scratch easily. I made the mistake of using paper total to wipe the front, and I’m reminded of that every day.I found the instructions were a little lacking, and it didn’t come with all the cables that I needed to make it work. In particular, it advertises a USB hub, but you need to buy that cable separately.Take note that it is very heavy, and depending on the monitor arm you buy for it, it will be at the top end of acceptable weights.
