Great product and does what it saysAfter using the Panasonic ER224s for years, I wanted a new one that could be used in or out of the shower. After looking for a trimmer to shave my chest and lower region in the shower, I came across the Philips BG-2040 and Remington BHT-650.Before I buy any product, I like to see it up front and feel it in my hands so I know what Im getting. I went to my local stores (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, BedBathAndBeyond) and they all had the Philips BG-2040. Not one store had the Remington BHT-650. I didnt want to buy it online and then have to go through the hassle of returning it if I did not like it so I scratched that off my list. After reading reviews and searching for a trimmer that would work in the shower, they all pointed me to the BG-2040.I went ahead and purchased it from Amazon for $49 with S&H included.I received it about 2 days ago and I was able to use it today in the shower. If you use this in the shower, you will need shaving cream with warm to hot water.I neglected to shave the past week because I was waiting on delivery of this item. While I was shaving my chest with the shaver part, it was a little difficult because my chest hair was about 1 inch long. I flipped the shaver to the trimmer side and I was able to trim with ease. Once I was done with the trimmer side, I flipped back to the shaver side and it shaved with no problems.I started shaving the top part of the shaft with the trimmer and it went really well up until (GULP) my DAM hot water went to cold water real fast and I had nippleitis (HAHA). Anyway, this shaver/trimmer is an excellent product and does what it says. I would suggest not to let your chest hairs grow to long cause then you will have to shave with both the trimmer and shaver. If you groom yourself weekly, you should be fine. There are 3 things Id like to point out about the shaver.1-I have not been able to read anywhere online about this, but the 5 setting trimmer end, the head actually comes off completely which I did not know and thought it was there permanantly. This is perfect because I like to use the lowest possible setting when using the trimmer. (See pics)2-The charging portions is OK. Initially you have to charger the product for 10 hours. After that, the manual states that the shaver/trimmer should be used twice a year where you let it die completely where the motor stops working.3-The shaver/trimmer comes with a nice charging stand. I l;ike the idea and I want to leave it plugged in when not in use, BUT the manual states that the shaver/trimmer should never be put on the charger after your using it and never leave it on for more than 24 hours. If I am gonna put the stand on my counter, then why would I want to plug my shaver in if its not gonna charge unless its dead? Seeing that the shaver only last about 50 minutes, then you would have to constantly plug the charger in.Pros:-Strong feel to the shaver/trimmer-Can be used in the bath/shower-Removable trimmer head-Built in trimmer head so you never have to search for the correct one-Trimmer and Shaver on 1 machineCons:-Not able to use the shaver while plugged in-Not able to leave the shaver in charger overnight (24 hours)Conclusion:-Even thought the shaver cant be left on the charger, this is an excellent product for what it does. From the looks online, this is the best item that can be used in or out of the shower and you get the best of a trimmer and shaver in one.I would recommend this to anyone.

Decent trimmer, terrible shaver. Sorely disappointed. (Literally!)If you’re reading this, you’re probably as excited about this product as I was, after reading all the glowing reviews of it. Unfortunately, I ignored the negative reviews, and now I wish I hadn’t.Oh, let me tell you the ways that this product has disappointed me:-Numero uno: The GIANT gash in an incredibly sensitive area on my body, courtesy of using the shaving end. Who ARE these other reviewers who say that it’s impossible to cut yourself with this product?! I was very, very careful with how I used the groomer. I went very slowly, followed the instructions, and did all the necessary prep. Even before I cut myself, I felt very uneasy having this groomer down there, and you might feel that way, too. My instincts told me that it was a bad idea to have something sharp, electric, and buzzing near my nads, and I should’ve listened, because my instincts were right. i figure that if I’m gay, and even I am unable to use a grooming product successfully, then there’s no hope for all the straight guys out there, and the product’s gotta be flawed. Plus, a nick or two I can understand, but seriously, my wound is definitely full-on gash status, people. Ouch. (And in case you’re curious, I tried the shaver both wet and dry. Gash was courtesy of the wet shave, and I pinched and nicked myself a couple times when using it dry. I didn’t notice much of a difference between the two styles. I was lucky I didn’t cut myself with it dry, too.)-Two: The inefficiency of the shaver. Let me recreate for you what happened most of the time I used the shaver, when I wasn’t busy getting a giant cut: 1) I see a couple of short hairs, all on their lonesome, begging to be shaved. 2) I try shaving the area. 3) Nothing happens. Hairs remain standing. 4) I try a different angle. 5) Nothing happens. 6) I try a different angle again. 7) Nothing happens. 8) I try the last possible angle available to me, short of bending the space-time continuum. 9) Nothing happens. The hairs are STILL there. 10) I sigh and give up. So let me get this straight: When I use this shaver, either it cuts so close that it makes a crater in my skin, or it’s so far off that in FOUR different attempts it can’t even shave two little hairs that a normal razor could easily pick off? So wait, what’s the point of this thing?-Three: The trimmer is decent, but could be better. As opposed to the completely useless shaver, the trimmer did have some value. I was able to trim a lot of areas on my chest, back, and no-no zone that needed some tending. And it wasn’t too much of a hassle. But I found, particularly in my groin area, that the trimmer didn’t always work. There are some odd angles down there that make it hard to bring the trimmer across the skin. This isn’t entirely the body groomer’s fault, obviously, but I figure if the thing’s job is to trim body hair (and we all know what specific region of body hair that most buyers are interested in trimming), then it better be designed in such a way as to make that a little simpler. It seems to me, though, that the trimmer head is a little too wide to be able to line up properly with areas in the groin. There’s not always a lot of surface area to work with, and the designers of the product should have accommodated that circumstance better.-Four: Price. Enough said.I’d really encourage you to think about what you want from this product before buying it. If you’re interested primarily in trimming hair outside of the groin, then fantastic! This is a great product for that. If you want to trim body hair and groin hair, then this is a decent product, but know that it can get a little tricky when it comes to trimming groin hair. If you want to shave close and be bare in all your unholiest places, then I think you’ll be disappointed with this product. I’ve had more success with disposable single blade razors for sensitive skin that I bought from CVS. Yes, it takes longer than a fancy and chic electric razor (I know, I was hoping to avoid the wet shave with this groomer, too, you know), but it’ll get the job done, you’ll save some money, and you probably won’t end up with a band-aid on your balls. Thanks for reading.

Price increaseI bought this in 2015. The battery now does not hold its charge. Not too bad so I wanted to buy another one. I don’t think so! I bought it for 68$. Now its 279 and says it used to be 299.99. I might wait. As far as how it works I think it’s great. Hair can’t be too long but touching up areas it is fine.

Your Genitals Will Thank YouI discovered this beauty of a device in my last year of college and I haven’t looked back over the past 6 years. Are you looking for the final solution to all you pubic hair manscaping needs? Look no further.PUBES – The trimmer side is great for general pubic hair upkeep. Simply adjust the height (1, 2, 3, 4 , or 5) and you can turn your man tuft into a nicely manicured lawn. Have a significant other that likes your naughty bits to be nice as smooth? The shaving head provides a shave almost as smooth as shaving with a razor. If you need look like a naked mole rat for a special occasion, I would recommend using the shaving head the DAY of. Your genitals will look and feel silky smooth. However the hair will grow in more quickly than a traditional razor shave. Bonus over shaving — There’s NO itching and NO ingrown hairs with the bodygroomer.SCROTUM – The shaving head also does a phenomenal job with the coin purse. Simply grasp your scrotum so your balls are gently squeezing against your scrotum and stretching it taut. Go slow with the shaving head and complete the scrotum in sections, before you know it you’ll have a silky smooth nut sac, not some sad wrinkly pouch with awkward 3 inch hairs shooting everywhere.GOOCH/BUTT – This device will also easily trim or shave the gooch or butt crack. Simply squat down so your cheeks are spread nice and wide and trim away. Would recommend showering before saving this area (for hygienic reasons). In all honestly I’d recommend a dedicated butt shaver again for hygienic reasons. For those that wish to enjoy these special pleasures this is a must have device.OTHER — This goes without being said. If this thing can handle the nether region, I’ve also used it for the chest and armpits with phenomenal success.PRODUCT/UPKEEP – I believe Norelco recommends buying new shaver heads every 6 months. I have spaced it out to about every year or two and it works just fine. I’m not so hairy, so maybe hairier men might need to replace more often. My battery doesn’t last long if I leave it off the charging cradle, but so long as you always leave it on the cradle I can get through a rigorous trimming/shaving session in one battery (again been using the same trimmer for 6 years).Bottom Line: If you’re at all serious about regularly trimming or shaving anything below the belt this is your product. It also is great with all other forms of body hair men traditionally shave.

Easy to use, battery could be betterBought this for grooming and liked the versatility. Easy to use and worked great. Battery life started going down after a year or so, now it does not last 15 minutes. 3 stars for the fact that if battery life was still strong this shaver would still be working like new

Here I am, 8 years after purchasing this productI bought this Philips Norelco Bodygroom series 7100 back in 2013 for $60. Now it is retailing for $300. This device has worked well, but one needs to be mindful of how he goes about grooming his more sensitive areas while using it. I have more than once, with mild pain, drawn blood while using this in the scrotal area in haste. I didn’t use the Bodygroom often, but I found that, if I used it after a long period of disuse, even if left on the charger, I would need to charge it immediately before use, otherwise the battery would soon signal a low charge. Sadly, my grooming companion has decided to not hold a charge after eight faithful years of intermittent use. I will not be purchasing another due to the exorbitant cost increase. If you’re searching for the manscaping tool which will end the tedium of the trade, this is not it, however, if this were $60 again, I would happily recommend this tool.

Does the job, and more if you want. Poor battery. To keep this rather short, it does what Philips says it will do. It looks and performs good, and has many features (it’s an all-in-one machine!) that will help grooming of any area. While the “manual” says it’s not intended to be used above the neck, it does still also work great for trimming your beard or side burns. It also works great for the chest. It just takes some time. The trimmer will easily remove the hair that’s been there for a few months. To get the rest though, it will take some time, if you want it to be baby smooth. The shaver head will indeed get rid of your hair and make your skin nice and smooth (and WITHOUT any irritation, to boot!), but as stated, it will take quite a few passes before it can remove all the stubble that was left from the trimmer end. You can’t expect to just power through the stubble with the shaver end, otherwise you won’t get it all…or worse, you’ll yank some of the hairs while trying.Cleaning and charging is a breeze, and have had no problems thus far. The battery life seems average so far. Nothing special. Sometime it will sound as if it’s going to die soon, but it will still go for a bit longer. So that’s nice. I will usually charge it after usage, and then when I go to use it again (a week later), it has no problem grooming my areas all in one charge. Just don’t expect to be able to do a couple days in a row, without charging it.Lastly, as expected, this can still cause some razor burn or draw some blood if you’re not too careful in the sensitive areas. It will just take some finesse (and perhaps some satisfaction of not getting SOME areas as smooth as you’d like)…or maybe I just need some tougher skin.UPDATE #1: I’ve been using this about once a week (or every other week) for the past year. (I’ve owned it for just over a year now). The battery life has gone down a bit, but I can still get a the job done on one charge. HOWEVER, don’t expect to be able to do your whole body on one charge after using this on a normal basis for a year. I’ve found that now it will basically last long enough to take care of the “sensitive” areas, and a little more — say chest and/or stomach. But that’s about it. Don’t expect to be able to make yourself spic-and-span from the neck down if you’re quite hairy from the neck down. It’ll take a full-charge, plus another partial charge (I’ve found this out the hard way). If you’re just maintaining those areas, you should be fine, but if you’ve let them grow out and expect to hit them all in one charge, you’ll be disappointed. I’ve learned to deal with it, and adjust my “schedule” accordingly. With that said, part of the short battery-life may be because I charge it AFTER I’m done using it…and then won’t use it again until a week later. Perhaps if I just waited until I NEEDED it, and then just charged it right before, it would be better on the battery. Not sure. I just wish there was also an AC Adapter “attachment” that we could use if needed.I also used this to “buzz” my entire head/scalp for the summer, and it worked just fine for that. No bogging down and no irritation from that.UPDATE #2: I’ve now had this for about 2 years. Battery life has suffered. I barely use it anymore. Maybe twice a month…and usually only to do some final trimming/detailing. I’ve been using hair clippers (more powerful and not reliant on a dead battery) for tougher jobs or when I let my body/face hair grow out. With that said, I ALWAYS have to charge this Norelco trimmer before use…otherwise it will die within minutes. However, even with a full charge, this trimmer is still not lasting long enough to do the job. I’m limited to one area of the body per charge. Also, the main reason for this update is that I have noticed while it is charging, the razor will actually TURN ITSELF ON for a few seconds. It’s turning on the shaver (not trimmer) end for some reason. I take it off the charger and put it back on, but then an hour later it turned itself on again for a few seconds. Very strange.Update #3: Exactly 2 years later and this thing is totally dead. Won’t even charge anymore. The green charging light doesn’t come on, and when I turn the shaver on, it only lasts for a second. Pretty pathetic. The actual device and how it functions was great. The battery issues just kept getting worse and in turn caused me to constantly lower my rating. My device was JUST outside of the 2-year warranty. However, I contacted Philips and they were kind enough to still send me a replacement handle. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

An Effective Personal GroomerI had been using my Norelco 3 rotating head shaver all over and it worked well, but I decided I wanted to try something made for below the neck. Far below the neck. I had tried the Body Bare shaver, but it is only effective as an after-the-shave shaver and managed to nick me. I have to admit I was a little concerned about buying this groomer, given some of the reviewers complaints abou the edge blades. Those reviews made it sound as if one would be taking an electric hacksaw to his nether regions. But, since the good reviews far outweighed the bad ones, I decided to go ahead. I’m glad I did. It does a very good job for an electric. No electric will shave as close as a manual razor, so if that’s what you’re expecting, don’t bother. Having said that, it gives a very close shave. No ingrowns, no itching. Compared to the 3 head Norelco I have been using, it does give a somewhat closer shave. But, if you already have a 3 head Norelco, I can’t say this is worth getting, unless you don’t like the idea of using your face shaver elsewhere. Back to the BodyGroom: It does an admirable job of shaving smoothly and closely everywhere in the nether regions, without nicks or other drama. About those side cutters — I don’t see how people are getting cut by them. It’s not like they are a set of exposed teeth. Even when not placing the shaver properly, it didn’t give the slightest pull or nick. I also like that both the shaver and trimmer can be cleaned by washing them off. The charger stand is a bit gimmicky, but works fine. Quite a few of the negative reviews referred to very short battery life. Unlikely as it is, I wonder if those people perhaps didn’t read the instructions? One thing a little unusual is that the instructions state that the shaver should NOT be charged after each use. Rather, the battery should be allowed to run down almost completely before recharging. The problem with that is the charger also serves as a cradle for the shaver. It is therefore tempting and logical to want to put the shaver in the cradle when done with it. Of course, one can unplug it and use the cradle that way. Since most such electronic devices suggest only perodic run-downs, it’s a bit of an annoyance. Having said all this, I have only had the unit a few days, so I can’t comment further on the battery life. To summarize, if you are looking for a body groomer that shaves very close, is forgiving of its use, doesn’t cut, pull or irritate your skin, this is a good one. If you are looking for a wax job, you won’t get it.

Be careful trimming the arbor vitae–DURABILITY–I purchased this shaver in December of 2014. It doesn’t hold its charge well anymore as of January of 2021. I have to plug it in an hour before use each time. It started doing this over a year ago, having slowly gotten worse. That means by around the fourth to fifth year of ownership, the battery started going out. That’s not *that* bad, I guess, but nothing to write home about, longetivity-wise. It’s now six years old and I’m in the market for a new shaver, but I’m not in a hurry. This one works, for the time being.–USAGE–As for the razor itself, it has been… okay. I’ve used it for all kinds of body hair. I mostly use it to maintain the edges of my haircut. But also, once a month or so, I take it downstairs, but only for the pelvic area and topmost area of my unit. I have tried using it further down under, along the length of my third leg, and onward to Newton’s cradle, but I learned my lesson after the first few pinches and nicks not to do so. Instead, I gently use a manual razor for those regions.–CONCLUSION–So, after 6 years, it has mostly done its job, although not perfectly. It’s slowly dying, but for now, it works. I can take my time searching for a replacement. I may be annoyed at it for having begun to die, and tempted to take off stars, but it has seen plenty of usage over the years. That must not be forgotten. That should amount to something in this crazy world. As such, I rate this shaver a 3.9 out of 5.0, which rounds to 4 stars.

I’m a guy who doesn’t like shaving my “nether” regionsOrdered this under my wife’s acct name, but I assure you I’m a guy who has been using this thing. So let me set the back story a little bit leading up to this purchase. I’m a guy who doesn’t like shaving my “nether” regions, but I’m married to a woman who wants my “nether” regions shaved. I had been using a really basic trimmer to get the job done… you know one of those cheapo pharmacy neck/beard trimmers. Well, I only ever ended up shaving down there about 2 – 3 times a year max, much to my wife’s disappointment. There were many reasons I chose to shave down there as little as possible. First and foremost, I liked to call the times I would shave “There Will Be Blood”, after the popular movie. No matter what, I would end up nicking myself somewhere in a region where you particularly don’t ever want to see blood, this was terrifying. In fact, I typically tended to NOT use the trimmers on my scrotum and just try to cut those uglies with a pair of scissors. This took a long time and didn’t really eliminate the hairs, just made them a tad shorter. The taint never really ended up hairless either. Another problem with the old trimmers is that they would get incredibly hot and the metal would burn my skin. I guess to look on the bright side, now I could cauterize the open wounds the trimmers had originally caused. Needless to say it was all a horrible experience and I ended up having hair more often and in more places than my wife wished. My brother, whom I assumed was having the same types of problems, did quite a bit of searching and reviewing for a good body hair trimmer. He ended up finding this product and decided to purchase it. Fast forward 3 months. I asked my brother how his new body trimmer had been working and he said it was great… no nicks, no problems, no hairs (yes he showed me, and I have to say it was quite handsome). So I straightway purchased this amazing device on Amazon and have been very pleased. I was able to shave my entire “nether” regions with ease. I’ll have to admit I was very cautious and scared to shave my scrotum (I’d never properly done it before without problems), but I was able to glide over those bad boys with ease, no pain, no nicks, no hair! Also, the trimmer did not heat up after extended use, so it was comfortable on my skin the entire time. I felt like a new man. I’m happy and most importantly the wife is too!
