Description
Celestron has reinvented the manual telescope with the StarSense Explorer. This telescope uses patented sky recognition technology and your smartphone to analyze the sky and calculate its position in real time. Thanks to the app’s user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials, it’s like having your own personal tour guide of the night sky. Leave complicated star charts, imprecise planetarium apps, and computerized mounts behind. With the StarSense Explorer, locating objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes, you’ll be navigating the sky with confidence. Place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the app. After a simple, 2-minute alignment procedure, StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible. Make a selection, and arrows appear on-screen, guiding you as you move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green. With a 80mm (approx. 3”) objective lens equipped with XLT optical coatings, this telescope has enough light gathering ability to deliver impressive views, especially when you bring it to a dark sky location. Enjoy sharp, bright views of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons, its cloud bands, Great Red Spot, the rings of Saturn, the trapezium in the Orion Nebula, and the beautiful Pleiades Open Star Cluster. An ultra-stable altazimuth mount with full-height tripod anchors the telescope. Slip clutches and geared slow-motion controls in both axes help you scan the sky smoothly, following objects with just a turn of the knobs. The Celestron StarSense Explorer works with iPhone 6 and up and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016. For a complete compatibility list, visit celestron.com/sse

MUST HAVE if you have never worked with telescopes before….I am not sure why there are many complaints about the telescope and not able to see objects properly or in some at all. The first thing that you need to do is tune it well and after that never go directly using the 10 mm lens with the Barlow lens. Start with the 25 mm then go to the 10 mm and then use the Barlow lens focusing on the object with each initial view. Also understand that when focusing on planets, the planet might go out of the captured area because our planet is rotating on its axis too so keep on tracking how the planet you’re viewing is moving in the sky relative to your position. If you end up to the most zoom using the 10mm and Barlow Lens you will notice the planet quickly move up or down depending on where you are. so move the telescope accordingly. Also, make sure that your telescope is held at a firm surface, slight vibrations can make you lose focus. There is a lot of learning you can do with this telescope that can help you use more expensive telescopes. My plan is to get more lenses in the future and work with this telescope for a few years and then buy a more expensive telescope with the tracking motor.I am very happy with this purchase and would suggest anyone to buy this as a starter.I have not used the StarSense app yet, it is very finicky, and use my own sky view app to track objects in the sky. That would be the only negative I have but that can be fixed if they make app updates.

Not user friendly; difficult to see anythingVery difficult to set up. I even watched the YouTube videos. Also, YouTube reviews/setups. When you have to synch with iPhone which best to do in daylight, then you cannot remove your smartphone to keep it synched. Or, you have to do the process all over again. That’s ridiculous! So from late afternoon to late evening, I cannot use my phone? After 5 months, I’ve yet to see even the moon. I have had better luck just looking up at the sky. I even tried to use the telescope without the smartphone, but nope – nada. I switched out lenses. Nothing. When I purchased in the beginning of the summer, I tried to use it at night a couple of times and got mauled by bugs. So I figured I would try again in the Fall, especially after the first freeze. Last night (11/6), I went out because it was a beautiful dark night sky and I can see Mars right above my house. All I saw was blackness in the scope. And, yes, I did remove the lens caps. The only thing I can say is unless you have an extra smartphone to leave connected (and outside) with the telescope, you can forget about using the smartphone tracking feature.Even though I live in the suburbs (outskirt of city area), we get some really good night sky vistas of Mars, Saturn, Jupiter. I’ve even been able to track the space station across the sky. Just by looking up (for free). So, unfortunately, I am out about $180 (after taxes); but more importantly, I am extremely disappointed.

Great starter telescope-must have!Love this scope. We are new to using a telescope and so glad I purchased this one to learn from. We have already spent hours outside just looking at the night sky! We did purchase an upgraded lens (Celestron X-cel) but the lenses that come with it are not bad either- especially if you are starting out. We used the included Iphone app download to locate planets (Saturn, Jupiter) and other constellations. The images are clear and so wonderful. You can see the rings of Saturn and Titan when conditions are good-although Titan is a little bright dot but still exciting to see. Seeing Jupiter’s 4 moons and the colors is just so fascinating. The moon was absolutely beautiful to see- very detailed. We purchased some filters as well- the moon filter really helps and the blue filter is great when looking at Saturn and Jupiter. We are still learning and we have the bug- wanting a bigger telescope already but will definitely continue to learn our way around the sky with this one! The telescope arrived a day earlier than expected and no issues- packaged great- no damage. Easy to set up. If you’re new to observing the sky as we are- I would suggest some great books to accompany the telescope- also sold on Amazon to assist with educating yourself on the world of astronomy. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone!

Great ScopeThis is a really good scope. I got this for my daughter who is 6 and asked for one. I wanted something that was still manual but had some of the new bells and whistles. This scope blends tech and manual control perfectly. The app is amazing!! It is totally accurate, when the bullseye turns green your target is in the eyepiece. My daughter can move the scope and line it up with the app that’s how easy it is!! We’ve seen the rings of Saturn, the moons of Jupiter, Venus, and of course the moon!! Now it’s not the Hubble so the planets look a little small in the eyepiece but they are as clear as anything!!

Pretty decent beginner scopeThe app is easy to calibrate and use. The scopes power is a bit weak but it is about as expected since it is a beginner scope. Lunar observing is pretty fun and easy with this scope since you can see each individual crater relatively close up. I have yet to do any planetary observations but I am expecting it to be quite challenging and not very rewarding, in other words I don’t expect to be able to see a whole lot. Id recommend buying a new eyepiece to go with this scope since the ones you get with the scope arent really very powerful or high quality. The telescope mount is a bit flimsy and allows the scope to shake a lot especially in light to moderate wind. Whenever I’m viewing an object at a high level of magnification I cannot touch any part of the telescope because if I do the scope will shake enough so that I literally cannot see anything through the eyepiece because it just jumps around so much. Overall, I would still recommend this scope to a beginner, it is a good way to enter this hobby since this scope is easy to use and a bit more forgiving in the sense that you don’t need to know anything about astronomy before using this.

Tolles TelescopHabe es leider zurücksenden müssen da es für mich als Rollstuhlfahrer zu umständlich war es zu bedienen. Ein sehr gutes und schönes Telescope. Habe es auf ein Spiegeltelescope geändert.
