Description

Celestron has reinvented the manual telescope with StarSense Explorer—the first telescope that uses your smartphone to analyze the night sky and calculate its position in real time. StarSense Explorer is ideal for beginners thanks to the app’s user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials. It’s like having your own personal tour guide of the night sky. Dock, Launch, Explore Leave complicated star charts, imprecise planetarium apps, and computerized mounts behind. With StarSense Explorer, locating objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes of setting up the telescope, you’ll be navigating the sky with confidence. Simply place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. After aligning your phone to the telescope’s optics (a quick, 2-minute procedure), StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible. Make your selection and arrows appear onscreen, guiding you as you to move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green. Smartphone Compatibility StarSense Explorer works with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and up and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016. Patented StarSense Sky Recognition Technology StarSense Explorer uses patented technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. A Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), like the ones satellites use in orbit to correctly orient themselves, helps the app match star patterns it detects overhead to its internal database. While other astronomy apps may claim that they can help you find objects, they rely exclusively on the phone’s gyros and accelerometers, which aren’t as accurate as LISA technology. No other app can accurately tell you when your target is visible in the eyepiece.

It’s only good to view the moon. Couldn’t see planets like Saturn.I bought this with the hope that I can show my kids the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter. With great difficulty, I was able to see the craters on the moon. However, I had no luck seeing Jupiter or Saturn through this telescope. I was able to get the object in view but couldn’t make out any features like the rings of Saturn. It is extremely difficult to get even the moon into view on the eyepiece because the telescope keeps drooping and won’t hold in place. The red dot finder scope is really really bad because even when the red dot is pointed right to the moon, the moon was not in the eyepiece view. I learnt that we have to calibrate the finder scope also, but the alt and azimuth knobs on the finder don’t move it enough to get it aligned. The Celestron StarSense app is nice, but you really need a bigger and better telescope if you want to enjoy seeing the planets. Luckily I was able to rerun this Telescope for a full refund. I went ahead and bought a Celestron Nexstar 8SE that cost $1200 and was able to see the rings of Saturn with my kids with that the 8SE. I guess you get what you pay for.

Overpriced, not collimated, scratched primary reflectorMy rating would probably be more forgiving if this was a $100 Walmart telescope. For $350, I don’t think it unreasonable to expect a modicum of quality control. I can only assume the item I received was previously returned. There’s no way this telescope left the factory in such poor condition.1. ASSEMBLY: Easy enough, but I found the first quality issue right out of the box. The aperture dust cover wouldn’t seat properly. I used a compass to do a basic roundness check of the optical tube at the aperture. It failed. Not really a deal breaker in and of itself, but still pretty lame.2. INITAL SETUP: Again, the process wasn’t difficult, but the collimation was way off. I’ve seen Amazon drivers perform some impressive stunt driving, but unless this particular truck did a few barrel rolls down a hill with my package in tow, the mirrors were askew before it left the warehouse.During the collimation, I kept seeing this weird shadow that shouldn’t be there. I then discovered a random dust cap had come off and wedged itself against the inner wall of the tube and the primary mirror. I tipped the tube forward and the cap fell out. This turned out to be a cap for the leveling screws on the spider assembly.3. FIRST USE: 25mm eyepiece is economy grade, but perfectly serviceable. 10mm eyepiece isn’t great. The Barlow lens is a joke. The weird shadow was gone, but in its place was a faint streak, so I pointed a flashlight down the tube to check the primary mirror for detritus. Instead, I found the a small scratch near the edge of the mirror right where the dust cap had been.4. ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS: The reviews for this model were pretty good most places I checked. When I got to the Celestron website, I saw the price for direct purchase in their online store…$189…WTF??Something is up. I can’t say for sure what it is. Celestron usually makes decent stuff and I don’t know who to blame for what. In any case, it would be best to steer clear of this seller.

DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT AND ESPECIALLY FROM THIS SELLERThe pointer only worked half of the time. Images were blurry. When I researched what needed to do to get full use of the scope, seems I need to spend a few hundred more dollars to get a couple of better lenses and filters. I had purchased a moon filter and it helped some, but not enough. They shipped the scope to me from California, but wanted me to ship it back to New York. EXPENSIVE I AM EXTREMELY UNHAPPY WITH THIS SELLER AND MY EXPERIENCE. THE CHEAPEST WAY I COULD FIND TO SHOP IT BACK WAS $83.

Great telescope, great value! My 12yr daughter is in love with space now, so I took several months to find a great starter telescope which will enhance her excitement of space. I wanted a telescope that was affordable, easy or not much difficulty to operate, and had a decent range, and not just see white dots in the sky. This telescope exceeded my requirements! It comes with a great app that my daughter uses even when she’s not using her telescope. The telescope also uses your cell phones GPS to locate objects. ANDDDDDDD…. It’s made by one of the more reputable brands. I don’t think you can find a better telescope for the price. We love it, and would buy this over and over and over again!

Exciting and fun for the whole family. We recently had the planets Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus visible to the eye, as they were really big and bright. I wanted to get a better look so I decided to purchase a telescope, and I was not disappointed. My family and I have really enjoyed getting a closer look with this telescope. The images are very clear and very beautiful. We actually enjoyed viewing the moon last night. The kids really get a kick out of what they see. They get super excited and have all kinds of questions. It is a lot of fun! Thank you Celestron – StarSense Explorer LT 114AZ Smartphone App-Enabled Telescope.

Delivered early! Thats a great plus!!! 😊Delivered yesterday which is 5days early than expected!!!! Yeheyyy thanks celestron! Gotta do a review once i start checking this telescope out! Cant do at this time since we have a very unhealthy air quality and smoky, ashes falling… update soon! Once we get clear sky and healthy air! 🙂🤞👍I forgot i never get the time to update my review. Very disappointed with this scope. The app doesnt work and alignment is terrible. I agree with the reviews here it’s a waste of money. Glad i have my Gosky spotting scope and able to see jupiter with its moons (4) and saturn. But with this celestron, its a waste so don’t buy and safe your money fro something else. My celestron after atleast 4 tries of taking it out to check the night sky has been sitting here in the corner of the room ever since.

Great technology spend just a bit moreThis is a great product !!!!! Perfect for beginners. Could be built a little better doesn’t seem like it will hold up over the long term. We also have the 130dx. Far superior!!!!! Same tech. Larger aperture better mount spend a little more and get the 130dx if you have the extra cash. It is totally worth the extra money
