good, reliable instrumentmy laptops failed and I needed another one. I was left using an old, refurbished desktop, which was slow, had a fuzzy picture (My monitor was high definition, but the signal from my computer was worse than standard definition.), and was anchored to my desk. In addition, my monitor was the same brand, (Samsung) as my television. Both worked well enough for me, but when I turned on my tv with my remote, it also turned on my monitor and vice versa, turning on my tv turned off my monitor, so I definitely needed an upgrade. This Chromebook seemed offer the best deal for the payment plan I could afford, so I ordered it. It arrived yesterday, so this review is basically my first impression. When it arrived, my first impression was that it was very large for a laptop. had owned a 17-inch laptop before but had forgotten how big it had been. It was also only half the thickness of my old one. Since I am nearsighted, a big screen was a plus for me. Once I powered it up, I was pleased with the clarity of the image. True high definition. Then I hit the first snag. The font on all pages was exceptionally small. About the size of the fine print on a medicine bottle. Because of the high-definition screen, the print is clear enough to read, but only from very close up. A sure cause for eyestrain headaches. There must be a way to adjust that, but I can’t find it so far. Added later; I found how to adjust the size of the print. in settings, go to appearance and click Make objects on the screen appear larger. You will get a sliding bar and make the adjustment with it. The next problem was that stupid little touch pad that is supposed to take the place of a mouse. It kind of works, but it surely does not take the place of a mouse. It is slow and does not know between touching it to move the cursor and touching it to click. Sometimes it just pays no attention to either and I had to hit it several times to get it to respond. How you right click it is a mystery to me. After struggling with it and cursing at it for about seven hours, I gave up and pulled the mouse off my desktop and plugged it into one of the two (only two) USB ports. The problem was solved. Then I went to Amazon to order another mouse. When I hit the search page, mouse for laptop, I got a list of 400 items. Clearly, I am not the only person who finds that touch pad useless. I ordered a wireless mouse, so the problem is resolved. I taped a piece of illustration board over the touch pad, which nullified it. the board is so then that it does not interfere with the screen shutting down when the lid is closed. Aside from these solvable problems, I found this to be a good buy. I am glad I made this purchase. Last night I watched a Prime video. The picture was perfect, and there was no buffering. For a student strong enough to carry the considerable weight, this would be an excellent computer.
