The Group E clash is the first of three matches for each team and Riyad Mahrez is hoping to make a similar impact on this tournament as he did the last.

Algeria enjoyed a 3-0 win over Ghana in a pre-tournament friendly last week, with Islam Slimani among the scorers.

And with Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast the other teams in this Africa Cup of Nations group, both teams will be hoping for a result.

When does the AFCON game Algeria vs Sierra Leone kick off?

  • Algeria vs Sierra Leone takes place on Tuesday, January 11.
  • The game kicks off at 1pm UK time, which is 2pm in Cameroon.
  • The Group E clash will be held at the 50,000-capacity Japoma Stadium in Douala in Cameroon.

The match is being shown on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Football in the UK.

What is the team news?

As with many other teams at AFCON 2022 – both sides are susceptible to absences through Covid-19.

But as things stand both sides will be hoping to put out a full-strength team.

Former Middlesbrough star Kei Kamara is expected to start for Sierra Leone, as is journeyman centre-back Steven Caulker.

Caulker is eligible to make his competitive debut for Sierra Leone, despite picking up an England cap and SCORING for the Three Lions in a friendly before playing for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.

Mahrez and AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer are expected to start for Algeria.
